Teach Minecraft Education’s Hour of AI lesson in Term 2!

In the Hour of AI: The First Night lesson, students solve coding puzzles in Minecraft with the help of AI. Program an AI Agent to craft tools and build shelter before dusk falls in this iconic challenge!

Day of AI Australia will provide teacher information sessions to help support teachers deliver this engaging 60 minute lesson.

No prior experience with Minecraft is required.

Access for Minecraft Education is free for most teachers in Australia, and a demo trial is available to all teachers.

Play along sessions for classrooms will also be available in Term 2. Book into a teacher information session to learn more!

Learning Objectives

In this new adventure, students will team up with an AI Agent to survive their first night in Minecraft. They’ll train the Agent to recognise resources, craft tools, and build shelter before sunset, while learning why AI systems need human oversight.

Using MakeCode Blocks or Python, students will solve coding puzzles, apply key concepts like sequences, loops, and debugging, and discover how humans and AI collaborate to achieve goals. By the end of the session, learners will have gone from novice adventurer to confident mentor, and their AI Agent from clueless newbie to autonomous partner.

Are you ready to explore, code and create with AI?

Together with the Agent (and some very productive mini-agents!), we’ll show that with curiousity, collaboration and a little bit of code, you can thrive – even in the dark!

  • Learn about different types of AI
  • Utilise computational thinking to capture rules and relationships that govern AI behavior
  • Practice training and verifying AI outputs
  • Experience how to leverage learned knowledge across tasks to become empowered collaborators
